I am passionate about introducing music to young students as well as opening new doors to more experienced players. After studying Piano Performance at Biola University I went on the road as the guitar player for the rock band Fastball. I spent the next 12 years touring and recording in bands, honing my craft as a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. In addition to teaching piano and guitar I now compose for television and film out of my home studio in North Hollywood, CA. Read More

As a professional performing and recording musician, I have been honing my craft for over 18 years. I have been teaching guitar professionally for three years both privately and on staff as an instructor at School Of Rock in Venice, CA. My students range in age from 7 years old through to people in their 50s. With experience teaching a multitude of styles and techniques in both one on one and in larger group contexts, I have a great way of communicating things to people with different styles of learning. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I also believe in the importance of listening to as many professional recordings as possible of the instrument the student is taking lessons on. Read More

For students just starting out on their instrument, I start of with the fundamentals. That means scales and etudes that assist in getting the student familiar with their instrument and proficient on an elementary level. For students who already have some experience with their instrument, I assess the skill level and develop from there. These lessons can be a continuation of building fundamentals or getting into repertoire. Ultimately my goal when teaching is to help the student develop a healthy, fun, and effective experience with their instrument. Read More

If students come in with just an initial curiosity or are unsure about their direction, we try various songs and learning methods to see what they feel most comfortable with, what's most fun for them. I also love to ask the student questions and emphasize open communication to make sure they're an active participant in the learning process. This includes weekly lesson notes and consistent communication with any loved ones. Read More

I love seeing my students become as passionate about music as I am! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. It's important for each student to have just the right amount of material to work on each week, so that they are progressing without feeling overwhelmed. I also make sure to acknowledge the work that might students put in, and encourage them to feel proud of what they accomplish. Read More
