With any new student, I first get to know what the student likes and what they would like to accomplish with their music lessons. I am caring and supportive teacher. I have been teaching since I was 12. My parents' friends would ask me to teach them guitar! My degrees are in Theater, Music and English, and my Master's in Education from Harvard University taught me that everyone learns differently. I had the opportunity to study with Professor Howard Gardner, who developed the theory of Multiple Intelligences. Some of us learn visually. Others are far more tactile. And then there are students who hear and play by ear. Read More

I started teaching piano to both children and adults in high school. One of them was 5 years old, the other was 6, and another was 13 years old. I've also taught a 19-year-old for a short period of time. For the two kids who were 5 and 6, they were total beginners at piano and did not know anything about piano so my main focus was to introduce them to this instrument and teach them the basics of music theories, scores, and postures. In teaching piano, half my focus is on the student playing the music. The other half involves learning how to move your hands, how to practice effectively (especially when you hate it!) and how to stay excited about piano. Some lessons will focus on different things each time depending on each students goals. Id love to end up having recitals every year so that my students can demonstrate what theyve been working on!
