My approach to singing comes from the Bel Canto school of singing. Bel Canto is Italian for beautiful singing and while I was trained this way, I believe in meeting students at their vocal level and build from there. I dont subscribe to the one size fits all method because we all perceive our voices very differently. Throughout my university years, I had some teachers who got frustrated when they instructed me to sing a certain way that I could not understand and I never want my students to be confused or feel misunderstood during our lessons. For my students, I like to see what type of music they are interested in and listen to a few of their favorite songs. From there we can learn chords (guitar, piano) and melodies for vocal lines. We could go the route of learning scales and theory, but since I didn't grow up learning that way, I'd prefer to go the more modern way by learning strumming patterns, chords, inversions, melodies and harmonies, and teach dynamics to make a song come together. I tailor my instruction to the students wants, needs and abilities. It's a creative environment every week and I try to make it fun and rewarding. We set goals for each week and I review what they want to learn on a regular basis. It has to be fun! When they are having fun they learn more, it's easier and they want to continue. Learning the basic elements of their chosen instrument is a place to begin. Read More

My background is in musical theater and I have sung, acted and danced my way around the world. I love what I do and love to share this passion with my students. I get the greatest joy out of helping my students connect with their own voices, gain confidence and see them grow as a person and as artists. I also teach beginners piano, because for me the piano is the perfect way to introduce children to music and give them a basic map of what music can be. Read More
