The methods that I choose to use with my students depends on what they want to learn. Some students want to just play classical music, some pop, some jazz, some marching band, etc. Therefore I do not use the same teaching methods for all students. With that being said, I do make certain that all of my srudents understand the basic elements of music, i.e., time and key signatures, note values, melody, rhythm, harmony, pitch, intonation (if a wind instrument), form, theme and variation, etc. Read More

I know everyone learns  at different speeds so making sure they are comfortable yet challenging is important to me.Being able to know when the student is enjoying and not making it a chore is a key to helping and encouraging a student learn. Watching them progress in their insturment is rewarding in of itself and nothing is more satisfying. I started studying at the age of 7 and never looked back. I'm about to graduate with my degree in vocal performance and have already completed my pedagogy requirements. I have 4 years of teaching experience, and 13+ years of performing experience. I primarily perform opera, however I have extensive experience in musical theater, solo jazz and in vocal jazz ensembles, as well as concert and chamber choirs. I am comfortable teaching any of these styles, though of course when it comes to opera younger students will start with art song and other classical styles that are more suited to the less mature voice.
