I have a love for all kinds of music and look forward to teaching people that have the same. From country to rock, or whatever makes students want to pick up the instrument is what I'll use to teach them what they need and want to learn on the guitar. I always push students so they can reach their goals on the instrument. I will always give homework that will push them, but I make sure that I set a pace that they can handle. Read More

Ive been playing guitar for almost 15 years now. From small gigs to big venues, from using in ears and click to just playing by ear, my specialty is Pop, Rock, Metal, and Punk; but that doesnt mean that I cant play a country gig or Spanish/Latin American kind of gig. Feel free to reach out no matter the genre, and I may surprise you! Before teaching in California I've been teaching privately for the past 3 years in Minnesota helping students to achieve their goals with the instruments from playing and singing at the same time to playing full solos and gaining finger independence avoiding injuries and guiding them to a fun and challenging way of playing. Simultaneously, Jamie single-handedly designed, produced, and taught the General Music Program for K-10 at Cornerstone Academy in Brockport, NY. In the last twelve years, Jamie has built a formidable studio of private students of all ages on guitars, saxophones, piano/keyboard, bass, voice, composition/songwriting, and music theory. Congruently, he has produced and hosted annual student recitals, given pre-conservatory consulting, helping to place students at Belmont, Berklee, SUNY Purchase, MIT, etc., led three pre-school music programs, and served as Jewish Music Specialist and Shabbat Program Coordinator for the 92Y camps summers 2012, 2013, and 2014, and for the UWS JCC Camps summers 2015 and 2016. Classes are customized per the student's individual needs. For some students, this means a standard repertoire: Schradiek, Scevcik, Hrimaly for violin. Hanon for piano. But for others, they would do better with a less formal approach. In all cases, the use of the ear is fundamental and primal. We will learn how to hear, and how to listen for timbres and intervals. (Basic interval training will be a part of everyone's lesson, as there's really no way around that.) Some students are intimidated by the classical repertoire, and the demands the classical tradition places on musicians. Read More

We will start with the 12 bar blues (in order to work on finger dexterity) and work our way up into the pentatonic, major, and minor scales. Students will also learn during this time, various techniques to add more expressiveness or feeling to their playing such as slides, bends, vibrato, hammer ons/offs, double stops, etc. For the later stages of this course, students will learn about other scales of interest (melodic minor, harmonic minor, etc.), scale modalitys (the modal scales), five string arpeggios, tapping arpeggios, and advanced techniques such as tremolo picking, sweep picking, hybrid picking, economy picking, harmonics (natural, artificial, and pinch), and tapping (both one hand and two handed). I am very flexible with my teaching methods and put together the best style matching the student's learning strengths. Furthermore, I update and change my methods if I feel the current method is becoming ineffective. I keep my lessons interactive with the student because the time is for the student to retrieve as much information as he/she can regarding their instrument and they can build a stronger week of preparation heading into the next lesson.  Currently my most used methods are teaching via classical, pop & jazz, and Suzuki methods. I like to work based on what each student needs. I encourage the student to take his or her own interests into account on a regular basis. I also use a basic foundation to determine what the student needs to attack first, such as technique, harmony, ear trinning and scales. Of course, finger, pick, and slap styles are included. All kind of styles & genres are welcome, from the more basic to the more complex genres. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
