I approach teaching by focusing on the student. I find out what they need and want first. We set realistic goals together and I give them the tools to help them reach their goals. I don't want my students to be entirely dependent on me. It is her hope to create more musicians as the age of the musician is slowly dying. She has taught in group homes for children, private in home lessons for adults and children. Since then I've also gained a lot of experience with students over the age of 30. A staple of my lessons is to get my students making and playing actual music as fast as possible. While the technical and theoretical side is essential to being a good musician and I encourage a regular practice routine, I find it is even more important to always bring up the reason my students started playing their instruments, their love for music, and incorporate that into the less creative aspects of learning an instrument.
