My methods all depend on the students' needs and/or wishes; one lesson plan/method does not necessarily fit all students. Especially with adult students I think it is essential to cater to the students' goal. If this involves the need to learn certain techniques, requires knowledge of music theory or the ability to read music, I will advise the student so.
