Overview:
I've been a lifetime musician, and love finding unique and fun ways to motivate my students.  I've worked with most styles of music before, and arranged music for many as well, so I'm very comfortable helping students with a variety of disciplines and interests.  My experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me a very open-minded but direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW FAST you should be able to progress each individual student.   Just ask how my style may assist you personally, or ask any questions that you may have. I am able to teach most students to an advanced level, but voice and drums I only teach to an intermediate level.  Just ask if you need clarification -- thanks!
EXPERIENCE
Most of my professional experience has been with the Marine Corps Music Program for 15 years. I also grew up with private piano lessons, and continued band and show choir throughout high school.  Before my career with the Marine Corps Band, I also performed professionally around northern Ohio as a keyboardist and drummer in Top 40 and Rock bands for 3 years. I have a passion for composition and producing, and also enjoy finding innovative ways to encourage and challenge my music students.  I'm very down-to-earth and all of the students and parents enjoy working with me.  I'm very comfortable teaching young kids as well, although sometimes lessons need to be shortened (but more frequently) for optimal progress to be made. 30 minutes, 2 times a week, would be a much more progressive and fun schedule for the little people:)
METHODS USED
I focus on several different areas for every student, so that he/she can keep progressing in all areas of technic and musical knowledge: WARM-UPs, SCALES, MUSIC THEORY, SIGHTREADING, and PREPARED PIECES. And as all music students 'should', it's important to build a good habit of practicing with a metronome. My experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me a very open-minded but direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW FAST you should be able to progress each individual student. Just ask how my style may assist you personally, or ask any questions that you may have.
LESSON STYLE
I use the teaching method as previously described, and try to tailor my style for each student. Everyone learns, practices, and progresses uniquely -- so it's part of MY job to figure out the best approach to help each of my students. My experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me a very open-minded but direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW FAST you should be able to progress each individual student.   Just ask how my style may assist you personally, or ask any questions that you may have.  I've been a lifetime musician since I was young, and love finding unique and fun ways to motivate my students.  I've worked with most styles of music before, and arranged music for many as well, so I'm very comfortable helping students with a variety of disciplines and interests.

Matt is a very patient and talented teacher. He has helped my young step daughter to feel comfortable and much more confident in her singing. She is new to singing and Matt was the perfect match for her. He is very knowledgeable and clear in giving instructions. Matt is extremely pleasant and clearly enjoys teaching music.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
