Maya studied upright bass performance at Berklee College of Music, where she earned a Berklee Merit Scholarship and the Bass Department Outstanding Performer Award and Scholarship. She played with the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra, with a highlight performance of Lord of the Rings Symphony at Bostons Symphony Hall. She tours nationally with Boston-based bummer pop band Future Teens. As part of his coursework, he continued his guitar studies with David Becker and Tim Kobza, while also sitting in on master classes with Joe Diorio, Sid Jacobs, Pat Martino, Steve Trovato, and Pat Metheny. For his Ethnomusicology studies, Gabriel learned to play the tabla, a set of hand drums from India. He learned even more about Indian culture and music while abroad in India for 6 months in the fall/winter of 2006/2007, researching for his dissertation. Gabriel's fascination with Indian music has influenced not only his compositional writing and improvisational style, but also his teaching approach. I use Alfreds guitar method books for guitar and bass.  Piano I use the Bastian and others.  I teach from both my song books, and by thier cd or audio tracks.  I teach each student individually and move them forward to performance level. I teach how to read music and music ear training.  Theory training is also available at lessons as needed. Once I get the student past the basics on to intermediate level, I can listen to cd or audio recordings and reproduce the instrumental part on the spot. Read More
