Music brings me a lot of joy, and I hope to impart that to my students! It takes time and effort to gain mastery of an instrument, but the resulting freedom and fulfillment of being able to play and enjoy music are more than worth it. It was during high school that I started to teach piano, and my love for teaching music has only grown since then. I love teaching students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Read More

My style is closer to the Russian style than to the American style. This tends to involve more discipline, an emphasis on focus and concentration, and a more direct communicative approach. I don't usually mince words, although I am very supportive and gentle. My students seldom suffer self-confidence problems, because we are always too concerned with improving ourselves. We identify and focus on the task at hand. This is not for everyone, but for those that prefer this style, there is no substitute. Read More

My musical experience began back when I was 11 years old. I was introduced to music when I was a boy and from that point on my life changed. Through the course of my career I have played many genres of music such as Classical, Jazz, Latin, Pop, Rock, Blues, and Commercial Music. I graduated from the University Cal State Long Beach back in 2009 with and emphasis in instrumental music. During my college years I studied classical string bass and performed in different instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles. My primary instrument is the bass but I also play piano and guitar. Read More

I mostly do paperless. Less money involved, less waste of papers. I use a lot of videos and recordings. The principal instrument that needs to be trained is the hears. Brain and fingers immediately after. When a method is necessary, based on level of the student and topics studied, I recommend Creative Guitar by Guthrie Govan 1 and 2; Advancing Guitarist by Mick Goodrick and The Lesson by Victor Wooten. This last one is not properly a method, but an incredible book about music and musicians, that teaches more than the big majority of methods out there Read More

Is always good for beginners to have a book that includes a basic outline of the guitar parts, string names, and general terminology. This includes but is not limited to Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Guitar for Absolute Beginners by Daniel Emeri. After we passed the fundamentals, the class will be customized to each student's needs. Say for instance, if the student is interested in blues guitar playing, a big part of the lesson will involve transcribing some of the greatest blues players and we will focus on the bend and vibrato technique. As soon as I meet with a student or a group of students, I make sure they are welcomed by an energetic teacher before getting started on their lesson. I try to keep the student(s) engaged by showing them different ways and approaches to music from books and my own personal approaches to help them grow knowing their teacher is well experienced. Since their is a lot for a percussionist than just playing with sticks on a drum, there is no doubt that the endless possibilities in teaching students the various instruments will help keep them engaged as well being more excited about music. I have been teaching music since I was 16 years old and I want to share the same experiences I had as a student. Many teachers won't admit it, but a student's musical future depends almost entirely on who is teaching them. If a teacher is fun to get along with and understands how the student communicates then this can ensure longevity in a student's playing career (even if the student only plays for fun). Read More
