I started my musical journey at age 3 in Hollywood, California. My musical inspiration has always been The Beatles and I aspired to be like them. From the first time I picked up the guitar I never put it down. As I grew into my guitar, it became my friend, protector and therapist. As a high school student hearing the last bell ring, I leaped on my back and headed straight to music school which I took way more serious than anything else, knowing that one day I'd make my presence known. When I was 18, I would hang out at The Roxy, Troubadour and The Whisky where I eventually started to get invited to "secret" shows by members of multi-platinum bands doing all-star jams. As result of always being in the audience and my rapport with these "Rock Stars" they started bringing me up on stage and won them all over to this day, friendships spanning from then 'til forever!
Rewind to the year 1996. I was in a local music store looking at the bulletin board looking for a band/bandmates. One index card caught my attention in particular: "Looking for someone to teach my 15 year old son guitar, can pay $20.00 an hour." I took the card and raced home and called her. Turns out she lived next door! Turns out he could play a little bit, so during my stint w/ him we took songs apart, put them back together then played them. Every students starts and learns differently, so that's the place you meet them at and take them where THEY want to go. That 1st student? He's a Producer at VIACOM now!
If there's a particular method book the student and/or parent want to use, they're the boss. If not or addition to, I simply teach HOW to play the instrument. I show them how to hold it, wrist/elbow positions and muscle memory techniques which are very important early on so bad habits don't develop to where they're playing the instrument versus fighting it. This is something I do with every new student regardless of their level, because they sought out a teacher for a very good reason. I put them in best position to succeed at the very beginning.
My lessons are based on a transfer of enthusiasm. When I get my students to hear what I hear and feel what I feel, there's nothing more rewarding! I pride myself in the fact that ALL my students that started with "package" or "trial" lessons renewed! Their goals are my goals and we work together to achieve them at a pace I can assess by their progress. Again, I don't teach music, I teach how to play the instrument, big difference, greater results! As a former student myself, my interest waned when I wasn't being taught songs early on...so I teach them songs that they enjoy that are in their "wheelhouse" and build on that. I'm also a lead singer, so I sing the songs we play, giving them the "band experience" early on, which delights them to no end, because that's what they want to be; elation ensues!!!!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
