My approach to music lessons is to customize and graft them to the student. I approach all of my private lessons as music lessons, not just guitar, saxophone, theory, composition, or piano lessons. Throughout my career, I have consistently found value in being a well-rounded, knowledgeable musician, strong in a variety of skills, instruments, and genres. This is not to say that I do not strive for mastery, and encourage my students to do the same. Read More

I'm a passionate and experienced musician with a love of teaching. I have been playing drums for over 15 years. My musicianship began in the 5th grade and has continued throughout my time in high school marching band at Troy High School, where I was in the drumline for all four years. I have participated in worship bands at several local churches in Orange County and Redondo Beach, and have developed my skills both as a drummer, bass player, and audio technician during my decade and a half of experience as a church drummer. My teaching method is different depending on the abilities of each student. For beginning students, I use the Haskell W. Harr Drum Method Books 1 2, Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone, and The All-American Drummer 150 Rudimental Swing solos by Charley Wilcoxin. Once I feel like a student is strong enough on the snare drum, I will then work with them on developing limb independence on the drum set. All of the snare drum method books that I use with my students will eventually be adapted for drum set. Read More

I love sharing my knowledge with others. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a student acheive their musical goals. I like to keep my lessons fun and interesting. I try to create a fun but realistic experience to ensure that my student's interest is maintained while progress is achieved. I also welcome feedback from my students to cater to each individual's style and abilities. This helps me be more reflective and aware of each student's process. Read More

I first like to learn a bit about each student and what their goals are on the instrument. Knowing whether or not someone as musical career goals vs. just being able to have fun playing is important! For beginners I general start with a bit of the basics - how the guitar works and how to start fretting notes and making some noise, and then begin moving towards easier or simplified versions of popular songs. Traditional. Classical: Suzuki Jazz: Mel Bay Modern Guitar and Mickey Baker. Styles and lesson books used varied depending upon student and school. I like to involve the student in any way I can and make sure they have an interest in the subject matter. I stress the importance of practicing and enjoyment of music. I believe music is a universal language and I approach lessons with an intuitive understanding of musical elements as well as traditional study of theory and craft. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with CAGED System. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance looking into different genres such as RnB, Blues, Rock, Pop, Jazz. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. 5 minutes of warm up, 25 of theory, 20 of repertoire and 5 of talking about the next class.
