My teaching style is all about enjoying music and the instrument. I can pick up when a student is frustrated, confused or embarrassed and adjust the lesson accordingly. Overall, I want my students to have fun! I enjoy teaching how to read music and once a few notes are learned, I start applying it to songs that my students really enjoy. I also like to teach scales and harmonic structure so my students can begin to understand what's really going on in the music they enjoy. Read More

Instruments: Bass Guitar Double Bass

Because of the nature of the bass in musical settings, my approach to teaching is one I consider "wholistic". That means that in conjunction with developing fundamental technique and building repertoire etc., lessons will involve listening to songs and discusing elements such as groove and instrumental tone. I believe that the study of music should be fun. Because of this, I like to get a feel of what music my students enjoy no matter the age or skill level, that way I can custom fit the material of an individual's lesson to get the best results. It is important for me that the student is motivated and enjoys the lesson since they have to keep loving playing and practicing at home everyday to be able to progress properly. Learning music as learning anything is about exploration and repetition. Once you understand something you have to be able to do it correctly a few times before moving on. This can only be achieved if there is a certain amount of practicing involved. Read More

Setting realistic goals is definitely a good place to start. Also, I encourage transcribing music in small sections, and to always start slow and take deep breaths, as this will reduce the student's normal anxiety and has done wonders in my own playing as well. Using a rhythm reference like a metronome or a drum loop while practicing is also a must, at it helps develop the student's groove. Internalizing music by developing the student's ear is also a very important part of my teaching style as Is applicable in any genre (hear it before you play it!) Read More

Gabriel feels it is important to get out of the lessons what you want. So he does not have a set curriculum, and tailors each lesson to the student. He is very patient and presents material in an easily digestible manner, so we will move at your pace. He loves working with beginners and getting them off to a good start, just as much as he enjoys taking advanced students to the next level. Read More

Instruments: Bass Guitar

I have always found it to be fulfilling to teach bass and music theory to those who are hungry to learn. I've been teaching part-time since college to help middle school students prepare for their high school jazz band auditions, teach new professionals industry lessons on how to conduct yourself in the work environment, and even just teaching retired senior citizens how to walk a jazz blues! I love to help people get closer to their musical goals no matter what level the student is at. Read More

Instruments: Piano Guitar Bass Guitar Synthesizer Banjo

For younger, beginning students I start with the basic fundamentals of music while keeping it interesting with games or quick melodic exercises that can be easily grasped. Too much music theory can be overwhelming and boring to a new student so I focus on the fun side of music first. For the more experienced or older student, I typically craft the lessons based on their goals, while providing concrete ways in which they can achieve them with hard work and practice. Read More
