I've been teaching in the greater Los Angeles area for almost 20 years, teaching students from ages 4 - 92 (yes, really! 92!). We learned new song arrangements as a group, rather than assigning parts and having singers learn at home. Conversely, they taught me! It was a great collaboration. My teaching goal is to encourage my students to be lifelong patrons of the arts.  I understand that every student may not be interested in a career in music.  I encourage students to set goals and work toward them.  These goals may include a scholarship audition, playing a piece in front of a family member, or booking their first professional "gig." For students with previous piano experience, I first assess knowledge and ability in order to assign the proper level of either Bastien's Piano Basics or other solo repertoire. For voice students, I conduct an assessment of their individual range and skills in order to find classical or musical theatre repertoire that encourages development of proper vocal technique.
