Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I also like to incorporate improvisation into my teaching method, from very simple improvisational patterns for beginners to jazz improvisation for advanced students. I think teaching beginners that music does not always come off of a page is an important concept and can free them up to be their most creative selves, to feel connected to the music, and to be able to focus on creating a relaxed and natural technique. Learning music entails much more than just playing a song. I am sure to incorporate theory, ear training, history, technique, and performance skills into the learning process. The goal is to teach the student to be a well-rounded musician and develop all of the skills needed to understand and fully enjoy the entire musical experience. In order to keep lessons fun, I will incorporate small rewards and am always welcoming of jokes and humor as long as our learning stays on track. Read More

What is your dream piece to perform and why?
I have so many dream pieces to perform, but one of my dream piece to perform is Beethoven moon light. It is such a unique song that no one has ever thought of but Beethoven, and it inspires many piano players that would want to play it. It is one of my favorite pieces since it requires a lot of concentration when playing it also requires a lot pattern thinking when playing. A lot of his sons are all based on that and such more that goes beyond our imagination. Just listening to what he plays and feeling the feeling that he had that he played, is one of a kind.

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
If I was not a musician I would be teaching chess. Teaching chess is like teaching music but in a different way. Chess is all about strategy thinking and coming up with your own position throughout the game. The same thing applies with music. Is about decision skills and knowing what you want to play knowing how you want to do it. Chess involves so many things like visualization, calculation, tactics, strategy openings, and end games. I woud teach chess and it is something that i also love doing.

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
My favorite music style is rock, since rock is the first genre i first started listening to. I would learn the pentatonic scales and so much more. I would get a better understanding throughout music with rock. I would look up utube tutorials about so many rock artists. For example slash, and get inspired but him. I would use a lot of his soloing patterns and apply it to my own style of playing. I learned so much from him that I can't stop learning from him. I really love his solos and his own style of playing His unique.

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I decide playing the second by learning the basics of one particular instrument. Knowing what I've learned of the rest of the instruments and applying some knowledge from what I have learned and start to go along with it. Playing more than one instrument has expanded my own knowledge of music and has had gave me a new perspective in life. I know that if I learn a new instrument that I never knew how to play that I can learn quick. knowing that I already know a lot of instruments from behind It just takes a lot of time and practice.

Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
Music does run in my family. I Have 3 older bothers and 2 younger sisters. One my my two older brothers his name is Rolando. He can perform really well the keyboard and with ability tempo, and beat. He has a natural talent that no one in the family knew until later on in life. My other brother 's name is Brian, he can play the guitar, drums and a little bit pf keyboard, He has a talent in drums and can perform the drums at his max of his ability. My sister Genesis has the ability to song phenomenal. All majority of my family has the ability the play a specific type of instrument.

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I decided to become a professional musician at the age of 20. For me it was a defining moment. A moment when i did not know I had the talent for playing and teaching, I discovered it when i was 15 and ever since then i never stopped teaching and playing. I started teaching everyone in my family and in school. Everyone would compliment for my ability of playing but would never really pay attention since I knew that I I wanted to improve more. I always had the passion, and desire to muisc at any age and make it work for them.

Female Drummers: Great Drummers (Who Happen to be Women)

...she played on 22 top ten songs, with six of those reaching number 1. As far as I know, the number of records she played on has not been figured definitively, but the website discogs lists 349! Here’s a short documentary on her:     The late 70s and early 80s gave birth to a number of all-female rock bands- many had female drummers worthy of mention, but here are a couple I consider particularly notable:   Gina Schock   Formed in 1978 in LA’s bourgeoning punk scene, the Go-Go’s quickly turned to a bright pop/ new wave sound for their first record in 1981. ... ...it with sharps instead of the enharmonic flats (Gb and Db). When you begin reading music, these patterns will help determine the key a piece is played in. Putting Notes on the Staff The last step to our piano keys chart is learning how the notes of the piano translate to sheet music. There are two different clefs you will need to learn in order to play piano: bass clef and treble clef. The lower notes on the piano will normally be notated on the bass clef and the higher notes on the treble clef. The two clefs do intersect as treble clef goes ... Read More

Suzuki Practice: A Daily Event

...dripping water on a rock – one drip won’t make that much difference, and a whole bucket of water at once doesn’t affect the rock, either. If you haven’t practiced for a week, then spending three hours in one day is going to exhaust you and your child, and may lead to injury. But if you keep at it, in a slow and steady way, you’ll work new learning grooves into your brain and you’ll see your technique develop – without the danger of injury.   How Long Do You Practice? How long should you practice? It varies with each child. Most small children can’t ... Read More

...blues progression, so this time we’ll use a popular jazz standard for application practice. We’ll take the ‘A’ section from “Autumn Leaves” and apply the 1357 digital pattern exercise over it. I’ve written it out in both Eb for alto and bari saxophone (first line) and Bb for tenor and soprano saxophone (second line).     After playing through the example provided, try to apply some other digital patterns. It would be beneficial to work through all the permutations of 1357: 1357, 1375, 1537, 1573, 1735, 1753, 3157, 3175, 3517, 3571, 3715, 3751, etc. In addition to these, you could ... Read More
