I started teaching piano while in college.  The spectrum of my students was varied from their ages to their experience.  I found that I could make a greater impact on the progress of my students not only by incorporating organized lesson plans, but also by creating a fun and nurturing environment.  My success in motivating and teaching my students was based on making learning fun.  I never forget about the importance of music theory, but I also understand each student is unique.  I design my lesson plans around the individual and their likes, and always incorporate the music theory in my lesson plans.

Nothing is more important than seeing your students progress in their playing. I make sure that every lesson is fun and interesting for my students so they can learn faster and be inspired to practice even when they go home. I'm trying to find out what inspires the students so we can always have a successful lesson.

It is always my mission to personalize my curriculum towards my student. I accept students of any age or experience. Because I am well versed in many different styles, what ever stlye the student would like to study is up to them.  All my students will be asked to focus on both a balance stylistic and technical aspects of the bass. Also students will focus on music theory  and ear training as well.  For classical double bass, I do stick to a number of method books depending on the level of the student. (Progressive Repetoire - George Vance, Yorke Etudes, Bottessini Etudes, and Simandl). In addition to technique excersizes and etudes, my students will also focus of solo works and orchestral excerpts. Jazz bassist will also focus on technique and some classical study. Even as a jazz bassist, it is important to learn how to use the bow and perform with excellent intonation and tone. Jazz bassist will also focus on solo transcripitions, ear training, improvistation and theory.   Bass guitarist and bassist of other stlyes will also focus on technique and music theory. Depending on the stlye of the student, lessons could consist anything from learning popular and famous bass lines, improvisation, or sight reading.

A vital part of developing voice repertoire is exploring various interests and styles. I encourage all vocalists to choose songs that they will enjoy singing, but I will guide my students in exploring any realm otherwise not explored. I encourage healthy singing and practicing techniques that will ensure productive rehearsal without fear of vocal damage. A professor of mine used to always say, "there is no singing without acting", and I ensure that when a student sings a song, they will not only know how to sing properly, but they will also have a deep understanding of what they are singing about.

As important as it is for me to help improve students technical ability and tone, I believe it is equally important for me to find ways to nurture students' creativity and passion for music. I believe it is very important for students to listen to a wide range of music, especially the type of music they are studying, in order to develop their awareness of style and nuance. I also encourage students to create their own exercises in addition to the ones I assign. I believe that this can help them to bring out their inner creativity and develop a personal sound, as well as have fun while practicing!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
