Throughout his teaching career, Jamie has also participated in many performance and recording projects both as band leader of The Rift, a guest, and a solo artist. During the school year 2016 - 2017 he was a Show Director for the School of Rock - Mamaroneck. Most recently he designed, produced, and taught residencies, culminating concerts, and family workshops for LEAP NYC as a Teaching Artist. I have been teaching privately since 2006. I specialize in jazz drum set, but I can teach all sorts of styles of music as well. In addition to drum set, I teach rudimental, marching and classical snare drum, classical percussion (mallets, timpani), afro-cuban percussion (congas, bongos, timbales), sight reading, music theory, and beginning piano. Brain and fingers immediately after. When a method is necessary, based on level of the student and topics studied, I recommend Creative Guitar by Guthrie Govan 1 and 2; Advancing Guitarist by Mick Goodrick and The Lesson by Victor Wooten. I use methods I learned from my studies at CSULA and my personal experience over the years and learning various instruments and rehearing and performing with people from different age groups. Everyone can teach you something, it doesnt matter their age, a persons drive, discipline and curiosity will learn and can show others. When it comes to kids I am more about the basics and literal but with older kids and adults it is different because we understand feel and groove and dynamics which translates to different words.
