I am a passionate working musician in Los Angeles who loves to share my music with everyone through both performances and lessons. I have been giving one-on-one music lessons to others for as long as I've been proficient enough to teach. I have also had the opportunity to travel and play with ensembles of all kinds, from tours of the Eastern US with rock bands, to performing at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York with big band. And usually Faber Piano Adventures for young piano students. Eventually going to Clementi Sonatinas and Chopin Preludes. Also Mel Bay Modern Guitar for beginning rock/jazz guitarists. Then eventually going to Mickey Bakers Jazz Guitar books. Read More

After 3 to 6 months, beginners should expect to be able to play many of their favorite songs, have a firm grasp on basic scales, chords, theory and sight reading, and can even begin writing their own songs and improvising solos! When teaching beginners, especially kids, I find it easiest to have them learn songs that they already enjoy. This often involves learning the chords within the songs and allows us to start focusing on a strum pattern as well. If this seems daunting, sometimes we learn only the abridged or quick version of a song. I always like to start entry level students with the intro to "Come As You Are" by Nirvana. Read More

My teaching methods depend on the student's age, experience and skill level. I do my best to try to keep it interesting. I teach my students songs that they want to learn, but at the same time I explain the music theory that goes with it. I teach finger and coordination exercises to help with technique. Knowing scales and chords is a must for clear understanding of how harmony works. Read More
