Rewind to the year 1996. I was in a local music store looking at the bulletin board looking for a band/bandmates. One index card caught my attention in particular: "Looking for someone to teach my 15 year old son guitar, can pay $20.00 an hour." I took the card and raced home and called her. Turns out she lived next door! Turns out he could play a little bit, so during my stint w/ him we took songs apart, put them back together then played them. Read More

I have previously taught at the Saturday Conservatory of Music in San Gabriel, Suzanne Middle School in Walnut, IvyCrest Montessori in Fullerton, and Music & Arts in San Dimas and Mission Viejo. I have also held masterclasses in percussion and drums throughout Orange and Los Angeles County. I enjoy teaching privately because I know an individual student will be able to better improve themselves when applying their growing skills in their respective ensemble. Read More

I have been teaching for the last 10 years. I taught at the East Bay Waldorf School in Berkeley, CA immediately after graduating college where I taught 5-13 year olds. I have taught private lessons to all ages. I can teach lead and rhythm guitar in a variety of styles including pop, jazz, rock. I can teach improvisation and theory. I have a good educational background in theory as it was an important part of my degree so am able to go over both written and ear training in good detail. Read More

During my first meeting with a new student I ask them questions about their prior experiences, current knowledge, and musical aspirations. From there I tailor a unique learning strategy geared towards their goals, personality, and aptitude. I always try to use music that the student enjoys to spotlight the concept we are covering, and encourage the student to think about it while they listen to their favorite songs. The greatest payoff I can think of is when a student gets the immediate satisfaction that comes along with hearing an audience cheer for them after a good performance, and I do my best to curate these opportunities! Lowell Liebermann. I was chosen as the primary film composer for the student thesis films and graduated in May of 2018. I was selected to compose a piece for the 7:1 dance collaboration project run by the Rovaco Dance Company. Upon reviewing the May 2017 premiere of my piece, Courtney Escoyne wrote in The Stewardship Report that the work was most affecting and at its most cohesive. I have studied under several industry professionals including John Kaefer (Quantum Break, Sequestered, Shark Tank), Michael Bacon (The Jewish Americans, Boy Interrupted, The Bacon Brothers) and Sam Estes (Music Editor on Inception, The Dark Knight Rises and Co-Founder of Sonicsmiths/Amper Music). For younger, beginning students I start with the basic fundamentals of music while keeping it interesting with games or quick melodic exercises that can be easily grasped. Too much music theory can be overwhelming and boring to a new student so I focus on the fun side of music first. For the more experienced or older student, I typically craft the lessons based on their goals, while providing concrete ways in which they can achieve them with hard work and practice. Read More

I do enjoy teaching out of books, especially younger children. It gives a visual to emphasize what I am teaching. A lot of the books I use are from Hal Leonard, but then I also have custom exercises for all different genres of music. Younger students, I tend to teach reading music with single notes as it is easier on the hands. It then creates an avenue to introduce basic music theory concepts. Read More
