For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard’s essential elements. Once the students has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what students is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I work with the student to learn what they are interested in learning. All my students learn to read traditional notation as well as tablature. I like method books like Hal Leonard , especially for the complete beginner - but  I supplement with other repertoire I have found throughout the years.
