I start the student off with basic fundamentals. Basic scales and chords. I'll start to give the student more advanced material once they start making more progress. I'll center the learning curve on how quickly they progress through each lesson. My students have varied greatly in interest levels from college bound piano majors to adults who just want to improve their playing, and learn something new while having fun, as well as many children who start because their parents want them too, but end up sticking around because they enjoy it. For all of my students, regardless of level, playing together in lessons is a big part of my teaching method. Playing together in lessons fosters intonation, musical commutation skills and sound blending. For beginning students, I work a lot on sound production and tonguing through progressive etudes and duets. I incorporate performance environments early into my curriculum. I emphasize both notes and rhythms in my teaching, and for both notes and rhythms, I strongly believe in the importance of being able to not only read them, but hear and feel them as well. These aural skills are an immense part of accelerating a student's development, helping them learn and memorize music quickly, familiarizing them with music theory, and creating a close personal relationship between themselves and their musical studies. Moved to USA from Moscow (Russia) in 1990. Completed my education at Lehman College with MS in Music pedagogy in 2006. Was on board with "MUSIKA" during 2003-2005 (not sure).
