I've learned through experience that being too strict can contribute to a student loosing interest in practicing, so my teaching style is in the sweet spot. I push my students to always improve but I still remain patient and adaptable to different student situations. I'm always supportive and excited for my students as they grow and find their own performances and build a strong repertoire. A students happiness and success is most important to me so I'll always be a friend and make sure they're doing alright so that they can overcome obstacles and so that we can work around problems together! Beginning Piano Students: I use three books in the Piano Adventures series: (Performance, Lesson, and Theory). I work composition into the lesson using the Orff-Schulwerk technique of elemental music creation. In addition, I supplement written musical work as needed. Voice Students: I interview all voice students first to see what their goals are in voice study. I then begin vocal study with the study of posture using Alexander Technique ideas, and a study of breathing and support techniques. Read More

Teaching students to play and enjoy music is extremely rewarding for me, and I love to help children and adults discover and develop their musical talents. I am a patient, positive teacher who seeks to challenge students to put forth their best effort and perform to their potential. I foster an intristic love of music to motivate my students, so that their playing (including practice time) becomes enjoyable. My instruction takes into consideration factors such as learning disabilities and developmental needs that are critical to students' success. Read More

My teaching style is flexible based on the individuals needs. Some students require a firm approach whereas others are better off with a gentler one. I pride myself on my ability to connect with students and find what motivates them. My approach heavily relies on the historical pedagogy of every instrument I teach while also implementing improvisation and free play to excite and motivate. My students are strongly encouraged to attend concerts, master classes, and listen to live music as much as possible. Read More

My teaching career began nearly 20 years ago as the assistant director of a concert band for senior citizens! I was about halfway through college when a music education professor asked me if I'd like the opportunity. From there I went on to teach full time or as a clinician and many middle and high schools in the DFW area, as well as Baylor University. My time living abroad in Brazil and Korea gave me the opportunity to work with both younger (elementary) and older (adult) students in very diverse environments. Read More

I will start with a free assessment of the students level likes and dislikes and then devise a program suited to them. I will use a variety of materials and my own knowledge to guide the student through the rudiments while making the lesson fun and rewarding. I will include sight reading and all that entails, rhythmic and ear training exercises, listening and singing even though this is a piano lesson. Read More
