I started regularly teaching private lessons in 2019. I worked at the Wilmette Parks District, the Park District of Highland Park, Dynamic Music, and as a freelance teacher. I also was a music director for the Wilmette Children's Theatre, the Florida Repertory Theatre, and Highland Park's summer programming. I've been playing guitar since I was eight, piano since I was twelve, and I've been singing my whole life. With my students, I always try to find what they want to achieve and tailor my lessons towards that. I always love seeing my students improve and teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs. I set weekly goals for my students, and keep track of their progress in personal journals. Each student is different, and progress will vary from student to student. The ultimate goal of my teaching philosophy is to help my students to develop a passion for music and eventually develop their own understanding of music in an artistic form. Every week, I set goals that are individualized for every student. If the goals are not met, we could discuss the situation and adjust accordingly. I use the score to pose questions about the way musical material is organized, how it reflects the composer’s ideas, and what makes the score coherent to the player and the  listener. In this way, a score is one point of focus for developing interest and a questioning attitude—practices that will serve students for a lifetime. I believe that our ability to talk about music emerges from the experience of “thinking music” as performers and that we truly learn music by using its grammar. I am an engaging and motivated instructor who enjoys sharing knowledge and passion for music with my students. I have had a varied career, and have performed all over the world in a variety of settings including orchestras, ballet, opera and musical theater/pops. I've played musicals on the Strip in Las Vegas, Dvorak in Bosnia, and operetta in France. I've been teaching on and off over the past 10+ years. My first experience teaching in a professional setting was at the Royal Academy of Music in Shrewsbury Massachusetts while taking some time off from college. There I taught up to 30 students in any given week. It's also where I branched out and began teaching beginner to intermediate bass guitar, piano, and drums.
