Overview:
I am a New York City-based flutist, passionate teacher and trail-blazing entrepreneur. In 2014, I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance and a minor in Entrepreneurship. I am currently pursuing my master's degree in Classical Flute Performance at the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Linda Chesis. I am a native of Detroit, Michigan, and I have won first or second prize in many competitions including the Lima Symphony Young Artist Concerto Competition, the Central Ohio Flute Association Collegiate Division Competition, the MTNA Solo Competition, and the New Albany Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to perform at renowned venues such as Salle Cortot in Paris, France and Orchestra Hall in Detroit, Michigan. An advocate of new music, I have performed at the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) New Music Festival, the Society for Composers International (SCI) and the Society for Electroacoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS) Conferences, where my performance won a recording spot on the 2018 Music From SEAMUS, vol. 27 CD now available for purchase on iTunes and NAXOS. Professionally, I hold an internship position at Muramatsu America under the management of Ervin Monroe and I am a graduate assistant at the Manhattan School of Music Center for Music Entrepreneurship. I have also previously served internships at the 2017 National Flute Association Convention and at Flute Specialists, Inc. I also currently volunteer as a board member on the National Flute Association Performance Health Care Committee and I am newsletter editor and author of a monthly newsletter column for the Southeast Michigan Flute Association. I have an extensive background in researching musculoskeletal health and wellness in collegiate music students, and I am the founder of www.playingwithoutpain.com, an award-winning interactive web resource designed to provide collegiate music students with information to treat and prevent performance-based injury. Upon my graduation from the Manhattan School of Music, I plan to pursue a portfolio career through performance, teaching, and furthering my research in the field of performing arts health.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons part-time 8 years ago, teaching primarily young beginning and intermediate students. I have served as a teaching assistant for the 2016 Ervin Monroe Summer Flute Choir Workshop, where I played side-by-side with the members of the flute choir and offered advice and guidance. I have also served as the the primary flute instructor for the annual McCourts Music Fifth Grade Instrument Fittings in Berkley, Michigan for the past 5 years, where I work with fifth grade students teaching them how to play the flute.
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Rubank Elementary Method book and the Forty Little Pieces Collection for beginning flutists. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce additional solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance including pieces out of the 24 Short Concert Pieces for Flute and Piano book, as well as move on to the Intermediate and Advanced Rubank Method books. I will also introduce pieces from the Selected Duets for Flute collections as the student progresses to use as sight-reading material at the end of our lessons. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I believe that students should be passionate about the music they are learning, so I encourage my students to select at least one piece of music that they are motivated and excited to learn each month. I personalize each student's repertoire to showcase their strengths and continue to develop their fundamental basis to help them to rapidly improve in both their technique and overall musicality. I also have an extensive background of research in performing arts health and musculoskeletal performance-based injuries in music students, which has led me to become extremely attentive to my students' needs and to make sure that all of my students are playing with proper hand position and posture in an effort to prevent performance-based injuries. I strive to foster a sense of community between my students, encouraging them to collaborate with and learn from each other.
LESSON STYLE
I am very passionate about teaching, and I encourage my students to figure out what music means to them and how they wish to pursue music in their future as I begin to create a customized lesson curriculum for each individual student. During our first lesson, I will ask what inspires the student so that I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. From there, I will work to set realistic goals for my students at each lesson in terms of fundamental training and the repertoire we work on. All of my former students have been very driven to succeed with flute playing, and therefore have received the highest ratings on their solo performances in both the District and State levels of the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association Solo and Ensemble competitions. They have also been accepted into the Michigan All-State Honors Band, have all held a principal position in their school bands, and have excelled in every aspect of their flute playing. I encourage all of my interested students to take every audition and performance opportunity available to them. I have a passion for teaching and I support and encourage my students in every way that I can.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
