They start out rather simple, but throughout the book many concepts are introduced that are important for understanding how the bass works. As well Simandl Book one is a wonderful book to introduce the positions on the bass and has many helpful exercises inside. So, with each lesson, I set small, steady goals for my student, depending on their level and so forth. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Bastien. If the student is older, we should progress relatively quickly and move onto more advanced books such as Piano Adventures. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. For children I like to utilize a lot of imagery to go along with making sounds first and then worrying about the correctness later.
