I found this to be a truly enjoyable experience and realized that this was a passion that I wished to pursue in the future. A typical lesson begins with breathing exercises and a comprehensive vocal warmup. This is usually where we focus on the "mechanics" of singing to make sure the voice stays healthy. Next, we will typically do some ear-training and harmony work, followed by songs! I try to help students develop a diverse repertoire of music that fits their goals. Most students have 3 songs that they are working on at a time: 1) a challenge song: something that's a bit difficult and has significant room for growth, 2) a fun song: a current favorite that the student picks for herself/himself, and 3) a teacher's choice song: one that I choose for the student. I put great emphasis on establishing a very good control on the technique of violin. I do it by teaching students how to do scales and etudes while having fun and making themselves more motivated by setting their own goals and achieving them, which also builds up their confidence. After students get more and more in command of themselves and the violin, I would then proceed to help the students with their own repertoire and guide them to formulate their own musical ideas and make their own voice be heard! For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has a grasp on the fundamentals of performance, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital or NYSSMA solo. After the student moves on from basic method books, I introduce more trombone-specific books such as Arban's Trombone Method Book,and Rochut's Melodious Etudes for trombone. I am passionate and have love for music especially playing the drums and teaching others how to play. I graduated from CUNY York College Bachelor of Arts, Liberal Arts in June 2017. I am the Sound Director/Lead Drummer at the Bethelite Institutional Baptist Church from September 2004 to present.
