I developed a system of designing courses based on the individual music profile of the student. I assess the students capacities in different areas, I design the course based on this assessment and the goals the student wants to reach. Typically each student receives training on three main areas: Technique, Ear Training and Music Theory. In each area I use ton of resources to have students learn ,absorb and apply key concepts about rhythm, melody, harmony, tone color and form. Read More

For beginning students, I like to teach simple and fun tunes that get them excited. I focus on single-note licks/melodies, and will gradually add open-chord progressions and songs to the curriculum. It's best to practice everyday even for 5-10 minutes, rather than every other day or few days for a longer period in my opinion. Once they start improving, I'll gradually teach more challenging songs that'll keep them engaged, but not overwhelmed. Read More

I am a musician who has already studied in three conservatories and four universities. I have been teaching private lessons for fifteen years and group classes for ten years. I graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A) in may 2017. From 2013 to 2017, I was teaching theory, group guitar class, private lessons and guitar ensemble at UNLV. According to my experience as a teacher, flexibility and adaptation are two necessary skills in lessons/classes. Read More

My early forays into education began during my undergraduate work at The Evergreen State College. I quickly learned how fulfilling the process was, and was routinely complimented on the patience I exhibited with my beginner students. After taking time off to work on my graduate degree and launch my freelance career, I resumed teaching again after graduation, volunteering as a faculty assistant with a music theory course at a local community college. I have had the passion of teaching piano since I started building experience through further studying Piano Pedagogy. The courses I was honored to take were extremely valuable for the piano teaching jobs I was able to find for the next decade. My most rewarding experience was when my long-term student of 5 years won first place in her first "Battle of the Bands" for playing Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are". Read More

For novice players, I generally start with a simple song, usually one by the Beatles but most importantly, a song that the student loves and will feel a great accomplishment learning in order to gain confidence. Then I delve more specifically into technique. Each song should teach a technical lesson! Read More

I've found that keeping an open mind about methods is really helpful when dealing with beginning students, young and old. I've tought from various method series including Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Emily Wright's A Modern Cellist's Manual, Muller Rusch, and more. While I'm not a certifited Suzuki instructor, I do teach from the Suzuki method when students or parents request it. What's important is matching the right method to the right student which I tend to determine at our initial lesson. Read More
