I strive to create a safe space for my students where they can dive into their material and feel empowered through learning and practicing. Some weeks a piano student might complete the material rapidly and some weeks, they may want to go slower, taking their time, therefore they excel at their own comfort level and don't feel as though there is a race. For both my younger and adult students, I like to start lessons with warm ups, then move to technique training, etude, finally to solo pieces, with each lesson including a brief review of the previous lesson. For beginning students, I start with teaching them about breathing, posture, and positioning of the instrument, so students can develop solid foundation, and good playing habits. My teaching experience dates back to my time in college as I spent many hours working with high-school marching bands and giving individual lessons on drum set and battery percussion. Once I moved to Los Angeles, the focus of my teaching switched to private lessons in students homes and rented studio spaces. After graduating from the Los Angeles College of Music, I was asked back as a substitute to teach their sight reading classes, to assist in styles classes such as Rock and Jazz, and as an assistant running the console in their "Recording for Musicians" class.
