I'm a passionate, experienced and motivated instructor with a strong desire for sharing knowledge based on my personal experience as a professional musician. In 2010, I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Contemporary Writing and Production and was able to learn from some of the greats like David Fiuczynski and David Tronzo. After graduating, I moved to Brooklyn, NYC, where I worked professionally for over 7 years, touring with Grammy Award-nominated talent and collaborated in sessions with some of the top producers in the industry. It is always important to set goals in a given time, regardless of age. Typically this means a performance which the student can work towards. For beginners it is important to spark the interest in the beauty of music, which brings a natural motivation a student needs to work on his own. Basic sheet reading and developing rhythm is a must and will be focused on. It is also important to note, that these skills will be learnt by applying them to songs carefully chosen together with the student. Read More

Education is the only tool we have to create a better society, and a passionate and educated musician can have a significant impact on her social circle. When I graduated from high school, my nation's first institution of higher education in music was formed. I received my degree from this college as a professional guitarist while also pursuing a career in jazz arrangements and composition. I began working on it when I joined the faculty at this College in 2008. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Just do what your guitar teacher tells you to do for homework. It's no burden, because you want to learn how to play the guitar and improve.

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I suppose that I decided recently. I recently ran into a friend and former band member after many years. So we decided to start jamming recently. We were the featured artists at a local open mic session, and the response of the audience was very good, so I saw that were was potential to keep the musical endeavor going and improving. I've always known that I had the talent to go professional. However, when I was a young man, sincere but doubting voices (others) in my life cast doubt on my musical ambition, causing me to self-doubt in that regard. Now is a good a time as any to make my dreams come true.

Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
My elementary school teachers were musical. Some of them exposed me to various kinds of music in the classroom. All of that had some part in my huge drive to get into music. All the music I was being exposed to had a snowball effect, until, BAM!, the avalanche came and I was fully engulfed in musical learning.

What is your dream piece to perform and why?
My dream piece is always the next good or great song that I will create. My own piece is always better to perform than another's (though I often do cover songs) because when it's my own, I never have to worry about someone coming after me for recording or playing their music (if they wanted to).

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
I like graphic art, like drawing, so probably that. I'm athletic by nature, so my time would probably go more towards that too.

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
By experience perhaps it would be reggae music, because, when I'm playing live, I'm in full control of myself. I can observe the audience and my band members with no problem. I'm in harmony with the soundman and just about everybody else around me. It provides 'wiggle room' in the sense that the band gives me time to jam, or 'solo'. The guitar is usually integral to the song. Therefore I'm playing almost throughout the whole song.

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I had a 'work wife' at Fedex (not a real wife, just a young lady I worked with every night, but we were friends). We were unloading ukuleles one night. She said, "I want to learn to play the ukulele". I told her, "I will teach you how." However, I didn't know how to play a ukulele, nor did I have one." So I bought one on Amazon, and took to it quickly. I told her the truth, that I didn't know how to play the ukulele, but that I would learn and teach her whatever I happened to be learning. So, the love a woman lead me to it!

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
The hardest thing is to endure the physical pain of applying the fingertips to steel or nylon string when one is a beginner. It hurts but after some time the fingertip callous over and then it doesn't hurt to play the guitar anymore.
