I first started learning the guitar in high school. I found I had an affinity for the instrument so I continued to study classical guitar and piano in college. I first started giving lessons my junior year in college and have continued to teach ever since. I am also currently the music director for the Yorba Linda United Methodist Church in Yorba Linda California. My first emphasis is that you have to like what you're playing. I really try to focus on what music gets the student excited. For some of them, it comes quickly. Others it might take a while, and that is okay. Once I find the switch that engages the student's interest, that is my focus. For my younger to play games with them that teaches them the fundamentals of music theory while also having fun during the lesson. For my older students I like to see what gets them excited during the lesson and move forward accordingly. That can be extremely different from Student to Student but I do like to stay involved with the process and positive throughout.
