I like to first access the student and their proficiency level. Once I discover your weak points I focus on them and drill them to perfection. Once we have those down. Of course it takes much practice on your part at home alone, then we can move onto actual music and integrating all the skills you learned naturally into harmonious music.--There is no set way to my teaching style because every student is different and must be addressed with their own distinct methods and styles of learning. -I do not teach in the way schools teach their subjects such as history or math. -I learn the student before I can teach the student based off how they live, interact, and learn. It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. Along the way I have had the honor of meeting and learning from respected musicians such as Lawrence Jackson (former director of SU Bands), Herman Jackson (Brother of Randy Jackson), Jerry Lee Lane (Marching percussion pioneer) and countless others. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the lesson books you or I provide, preferably Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

1My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

First and foremost, I want a student to be the best that they can be. I do not want a saxophone student to aspire to be like me or somebody else, I want them to be the best version that they can be. Because nobody else can be you other than you. When encouraging my students to be the best that that they can be, I insist that this is only achieved by consistent and efficient work. Read More

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I am a music lover. Thus, there is no room for having any favorite style or genre. Similar to food, when there is coherence and a good proportion of the elements then you find harmony, beauty, good taste and so on. In the case of music, I strongly believe that we need to be open-minded to understand the different contexts and paradigms found in music history through time.
If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
I would be a writer or psychologist. I enjoy writing very much, mostly in Spanish my mother tongue. Also, I am passionate about the mind and the understanding of human behavior and the like.
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
My music degree is in Performance. I have had great experiences as a performer in different formats including orchestra, chamber music and solo. I love to be on stage!
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
Sound concept! It is important to have a reference and create your own sound from there. Although you might change this in the future, you need to start from something. So, my advice is that you must listen to as many recordings as you can, attend to live performances, and try to identify what do you like and why, you need to describe it. That way you start creating a concept.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
The 57 ARD Music Competition Munich (2008) has been one of the greatest experiences of my life! I was in my twenties, and I still lived in Venezuela, my homeland. It was an honor and great privilege to qualify for this international contest as a Latin American and Venezuelan. Which was even more special after the first round when I was told "miss Borregales, you passed to the second round, congratulations!"
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
It was love at "first hearing". I was an 8-years old girl waiting for her mother to pick her up at the school of music. I haven't chosen an instrument yet and only attended to the music theory class. But one day I heard a guy playing this instrument, the clarinet. I fell in love immediately!
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Make pauses, these are fundamentals in any performance practice. We must take care of our body and mind. We are a very special type of athletes.
When will I start to see results?
You will notice the difference a few minutes after we start the first lesson. In my class, I always ask the students to try several options, and then I encourage them to analyze the results.
