ABOUT

Masters of Music Technology Aug 2015 - Jul 2016 Indiana University Purdue University-Indiana Web-based tool management Participated in online ensemble Recording techniques Music Education Aug 2009 - May 2014 Southern University A&M College Participated in the world famous "Human Jukebox" Marching Band for 3 years. Participated in Concert Band/Wind Ensemble for 5 years. Participated in "Jazzy Jags" Jazz Ensemble for 3 years. Participated in Concert Choir for 2 years. Heavy experience in music theory and instrumental method.

Overview:
It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. Along the way I have had the honor of meeting and learning from respected musicians such as Lawrence Jackson (former director of SU Bands), Herman Jackson (Brother of Randy Jackson), Jerry Lee Lane (Marching percussion pioneer) and countless others.
EXPERIENCE
As a drummer that has played in all kinds of styles and venues, I can teach any skill level from the first time picking up sticks to making good drummers great and great drummers legendary. Using my experience as a school band director (4 years), I am also able to teach concert band instruments (trumpet, flute, trombone, etc.) as well as Jazz ensemble instruments (drum set, electric bass). In the short time I have been with my current school, we have been awarded 3 awards: one for best in class, one for superior rating, and one band of distinction. I have been involved in music since I was about 8 years old. I began by taking drum lessons and my teacher inspired me to always go above and beyond when it comes to your instrument. It is my hope that I can bring that same enthusiasm and inspire future students the same way.
METHODS USED
I come up with a customized lesson plan for each of my students that will stay on the best possible path to success. Based on skill level, all lessons are geared toward progressing to a goal that the student sets while setting individual milestones. I choose a method book that is most appropriate for the student. When I work with beginner students, I typically will use a year one method book such as Essential Elements. For intermediate students, or advanced students looking to improve their fundamentals, I operate out of Sound Innovations to develop scales, tone, and sight readying. In addition to those categories, the student will also be given skill appropriate sheet music to build a healthy and varied repertoire of performance material.
LESSON STYLE
I believe in the philosophy of and empty cup. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students. It always gets me when a student that is stuck on a part of their music finally understands and performs the passage perfectly. The good news is learning with me is full of moments like that and I believe in acknowledging and rewarding that kind of hard work.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
