My name is Jenna G and I am currently a senior at Texas AM University (Whoop!). Music has been an important part of my life since I started playing piano in 2005. Clarinet became my primary instrument when I started band in middle school, and since then I have had incredible experiences both in teaching music and with performing. I am currently the principal clarinetist in the Texas AM Wind Symphony, but I have also had the privilege to play with the Texas All-State Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017 at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention, with the AM Wind Symphony at Midwest in Chicago in 2019. I have been teaching band in the Dallas Independent School District for 25 years as of 2019 and privately as well. I really enjoy working with students privately the most. I have also performed professionally with several bands as well over the past 30 years and currently. I love helping musicians of all ages to improve their performance skills and confidence in presenting them. I encourage my students to enter competitions so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Read More

Since that time, I've taught students on Saxophone, Flute, and Clarinet at all levels, from beginners all the way to advanced players in high school. My focus as an undergraduate was in jazz performance, and I love to teach about jazz techniques, beginning to advanced improvisation, and group dynamics. However, I feel that a strong classical foundation is important as well, and emphasize reading and technical studies to make sure my students are as proficient as possible on their instrument. There are many terrific methods and books available for musical development. An easy and enjoyable starter is Essential Elements. The Eubanks series is good, especially the advanced flute book one. There are some great solo books especially the Kris books 1-3 that come with nice piano accompaniments. Students really benefit from scale technique development coupled with arpeggio and varied articulation studies like Klose for Clarinet and Melodiusvand Progressive Studies for Saxophone. Read More
