MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE DATES BACK TO THE YEAR OF 1991. I STARTED WORKING WITH STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL, TEACHING THEM HOW TO BECOME A BETTER STUDENT OF MUSIC. IN THE LAST 22 YEARS I HAVE HAD STUDENTS TO MAKE ALL-AREA BANDS AND ORCHESTRAS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. IN THE PRESENT TIME I ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO PRACTICE 15 MINUTES A DAY INSTEAD OF THE LONG-GATED 1 HOUR PRACTICE. ALSO I ENCOURAGE THE STUDENT TO BE CONSISTENT AND 15 MINUTES AUTOMATICALLY TURNS INTO 30 MINUTES. Read More

I like to first access the student and their proficiency level. Once I discover your weak points I focus on them and drill them to perfection. Once we have those down. Of course it takes much practice on your part at home alone, then we can move onto actual music and integrating all the skills you learned naturally into harmonious music.--There is no set way to my teaching style because every student is different and must be addressed with their own distinct methods and styles of learning. -I do not teach in the way schools teach their subjects such as history or math. -I learn the student before I can teach the student based off how they live, interact, and learn. I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. I have found that students need a regular practice time 4 to 5 times a week, even if it is only a few minutes at a time; but, hopefully, we can find music that they like to sit down and play. Instruments: Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Euphonium, French Horn, Tuba, Oboe

Since most of the students I teach are members of a band program, I make sure that most of my lessons are based on what is being learned at school. Planning an individual practice schedule is imperative for their success but at the same time make it enjoyable so the student will want to practice. Constant acknowledgement of their progress each lesson the student more eager to learn. Even though the school program may require students to learn from specific material, I also tailor instruction to music they enjoy performing. Read More

I AM A CLASSICALLY TRAINED MUSICIAN, SO THEREFORE, THE STUDENTS THAT I HAVE TAUGHT OR WILL TEACH WILL BE CLASSICALLY TRAINED. WHAT THAT MEANS IS THAT WE WILL USE WHAT NOW IS COMMONLY THOUGHT OF AS BEST PRACTICES. NOTHING TAKES THE PLACE OF PRACTICE, AND THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT, BEST, PRACTICE THAT WILL BE STRESSED. THE STUDENT HAS TO PUT TIME IN ON THE INSTRUMENT, OR THEY ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE AWAY ANYTHING. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
