I have earned many achievement awards for playing my trumpet both in Jazz and Classical music. I performed in The University of Texas Longhorn Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble and Basket ball groups. I continue to perform in various small ensembles, community bands and jazz groups.

Overview:

I am a Music Educator with a lot of trumpet playing experience. I have never stopped playing my trumpet. I practice my trumpet as time permits and perform every chance I have. I like to travel and study musical styles and instruments from different countries. I also love the outdoors. I am passionate about instrumental music and want my students to feel the same. I want them to share in the knowledge that music is a special skill they will have all of their life and I hope that they will be enthusiastic about sharing their skills, knowledge and love of music with others.

EXPERIENCE

I have been a Music Educator for over 15 years. I began my career as a Band Director. I also have experience working with Elementary music. I have been teaching private lessons for approximately 18 years. I have experience teaching 5 year olds up to adults. I have taught piano, percussion, violin, clarinet, trombone, flute and trumpet. I have experience teaching music theory, ensembles and solo instruments to students who are English as a Second Language learners in South America. I have taught music appreciation to High School students using technology where it was possible. I try to be an innovative teacher while sticking to the necessary basics for advancement on the instrument. I want my students to have fun on their instrument and be motivated to push themselves a little.

METHODS USED

Beginners are started using a Essential Elements or a book similar to this one. It has been a successful and useful tool for beginners. Beginners to advanced players will work on technique, range studies, musical styles and solo repertoire. Student interests are an integral part of what is studied in the lesson. Each lesson is specifically tailored for that student.

LESSON STYLE

I tailor my instruction to the needs and wants of the student because I am a strong believer that if the student is interested, they will stay excited about their instrument and be motivated to develop their skill. Goals are set for each student. It is a positive learning environment. I am a good motivator and the techniques used depend on the age of the student as different things motivate the various age levels. I want the student to be happy with and like playing their instrument.
