I like to use the Rubank Elementary,Intermediate, and Advance method books depending on the skill level. I would say I focus on the fundamentals, embouchure, tone, air, technique, and etc. Having a strong basic will get the students to play anything they want in the long term. For example, having a strong correct embouchure is really important in playing the clarinet. For beginners, I focus on teaching proper fundamentals for embouchure, air, hand position, and articulation. I use various teaching tools such as Essential Elements or whatever book your child's school district requires. I believe teaching music literacy is very important. The goal the first year is to be able to read a majority of the notes and rhythms on their instrument while being able to play at least 7 major scales and a two octave chromatic scale. Read More

Since that time, I've taught students on Saxophone, Flute, and Clarinet at all levels, from beginners all the way to advanced players in high school. My focus as an undergraduate was in jazz performance, and I love to teach about jazz techniques, beginning to advanced improvisation, and group dynamics.
