I started teaching lessons in college. I began teaching lessons 6 years ago, and have always taught in-home lessons. I believe that teaching in the home will help my students be more comfortable practicing at home. I prefer the one on one setting that teaching lessons gives you over the large ensemble setting. I believe it gives more opportunity to grow as a player. I served as Band Leader (lead musician) at Destiny Metropolitan Worship Church, a 6,000 member congregation, in Atlanta for 6 years. My duties during that time included leading, teaching, and shepherding a 7 piece band through baptism, communion, regular services, funerals, weddings, early morning prayer, weekly rehearsals, special rehearsals, etc. My duties during the holiday season(s) inclusive of Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter also included providing musical accompaniment for plays, special selections, and more. Traditional sight reading, ear training, technique, music theory and the basic fundamentals are essential for developing music abilities. I teach step by step and build slowly so the student learns discipline and also become well balanced in music vocabulary. The students starts off in lesson books with an assignment book to help with consistency with daily practice, as the students mature we can also play the "cool" songs!
