My first and foremost goal is to inspire a student to want to learn and thrive in their instrument. If I can do this, my job along with theirs, becomes that much easier. I try and do this by heavily incorporating the music that they identify the most with while strengthening their technique with a classical foundation. My approach is methodical and step-by-step. I believe each learning step builds on the last, and that each new skill acquired "unlocks" new abilities and new music that can be played. At core, everything comes down to the twin pillars of fundamentals (including breathing, embouchure, tone, articulation, and range) and music reading, including rhythm and sightreading. I love watching people improve little by little. Its what makes the job worth it! As the teacher, I will try to make every improvement celebrated. I will try to tailor the teaching style to the students personality, because everyone is different. We will take things at the students pace as well to ensure proper growth as a player. I have taught flute for 4 years to people of all ages -I have taught children, high school students, pre-college division music majors, college students and adult amateurs - students who have played in school and community orchestras, churches and for their own personal enjoyment. The cello is the middle child between the bass and the violin and a lot like the middle child stereotypes I also think the cello doesn't get enough respect. My teaching style is relaxed and encouraging. I find students typically do best in an environment where they feel comfortable and safe. I like to get to know each student's individual learning style and goals and then construct my lessons based on that.
