I have been a music educator in the public schools for over 40 years having taught in Austin, Texas and currently in Fort Worth, Texas. Many of my students have gone to play their instruments in college bands throughout the state. Several of former students are currently teaching music at the secondary and college level.
I have been teaching since age 15 (1999). In addition to extensive performing experience on clarinet, I have functioned as a piano accompanist, choir member, and praise band member through the years. As noted above, I teach clarinet, saxophone, flute, and piano. My methods vary according to each individual students' needs and goals, however I try to find the approach that will best help a student to appreciate music in general, sharpen the mind, and give each student a level of skill on their instrument that provides a sense of accomplishment. I keep it interesting and while certain elements tend to crop up in most lessons, sometimes I go into uncharted territory and incorporate something completely new and unexpected. This opens peoples' minds to the possibilities available to them, especially kids! I am always reading books on the subjects of music and teaching (often both), so I am constantly developing my teaching skill as my students develop their instrumental skills.
I've been teaching in the university for 16 years, along with the students from kindergarten to adults, leading a clarinet ensemble, performing throughout Taiwan and China, accompanying vocals in the competitions, playing piano in the church, arranging music, publishing and recording CDs for voice, instruments and piano.
No matter what age, any starting clarinetist needs to understand the fundamentals of the clarinet. Once these fundamentals are acquired, we move on to the basics of reading music and playing the clarinet such as learning the circle of fourths and practicing pieces of music that is from a certain major scale. Ear training and music theory will also be involved in each lesson to understand music further. Each lesson is fun filled and packed with many activities to motivate my students to love music and have a passion for playing the clarinet.

It is never too late to play an instrument, and we have many adult students playing clarinet for the first time. The teachers in our network can work with you whether you are a beginner or advanced player. Many of our adult students notice significant progress in just a short time! It is important to practice every day between your lessons to notice the most progress.
Teachers create a custom lesson plan for each student, focused on learning how to hold and care for the instrument, how to read music, and basic musicianship skills. Students will may also explore various genres in which the instrument is utilized.
Children are recommended to start the clarinet at age 7 or 8. A student needs to be able to hold and support the weight of the instrument for extended periods, have long enough fingers to reach the different positions, and also have enough lung capacity to support the sound.
Young students are best-suited for a plastic student model clarinet. Plastic is durable, easy to care for, and can be taken outside for marching band. Models made from wood, offered by companies like Yamaha and Buffett, are typically recommended by conductors of school wind ensembles and orchestras for indoor concert use.
In home clarinet lessons offer a convenient option for learning to play the instrument for most students. The lessons will be structured the same way as in-studio lessons and will generally be once a week.

Giorgi has made learning cello even more fun. From the sympathetic, "It is hard" to the precise, "Be careful about the curve of the thumb" he has strengthened learning in every lesson, without being overwhelming. He started playing a little duet on only the 3rd lesson or so, which made me feel, even as a beginner, that I'm already starting to make (occasionally screachy) music. He has suggested a variety of drills and practice techniques which have also sped up the process a lot. And he has a good sense of humor and surprising amount of patience.

Steve is an excellent instructor. My son has really connected with him and he is learning the guitar quickly. Steve is patient and never rushes through a lesson in order to make it fit within the session time limit. In addition, before he leaves, he writes notes and instructions for my son to follow. By the next lesson, my son is confident in what Steve has taught him. Most importantly, Steve builds my son's confidence in his own own ability and progress after each lesson.

Brett is an accomplished musician, who shared his knowledge at a level that my five year old understands. He is polite and relaxed in his mannerisms but take a serious approach to focusing on the lesson. He is very patient and engaging with the attention span you'd expect from a kindergartener. David is not only a great musician and educator but also a delightful human. We began using David six years ago as a piano teacher for my two boys. Since then my eldest moved on to acoustic and electric guitar and my youngest electric and stand up bass. Somewhere along the way I began to take guitar lessons also (I was David's most bearded student at age 48). David always came prepared to lead but also to follow, he often asked what we were listening to and taught us how to play it. His ability to listen to a piece of music and transcribe it always left me amazed, we have several notebooks full of songs we learned individually or played as a group. After a shoulder injury David continued to impress by teaching me music theory instead of our usual lesson. I could go on forever, David made a positive impact on my family and feel fortunate to have met him.

When I started with Darrell, I didn't know anything bout music. Nothing. We started with basic music theory & moved into scales and reading. It hasn't been very long at all, but my confidence is growing quickly. He does ask a lot from you and he expects you to keep up. But I can honestly say that if you are willing to work hard and spend the time at home doing what he asks, you will see the results. He wants you to succeed and takes pride in watching you grow. If you want it as bad as he does, you will see the result very quickly.

My daughter, Valarie is one of the original members of the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble under the guidance of Aaron. He patiently worked with Valarie as well as the other five members individually and as a group to produce music that has been shared and enjoyed locally as well as nationally. He has the ability to seek out the strengths of each student while building confidence. Through his teachings, not only had Valarie learned how to produce and enjoy music, but also responsibility and so many life skills for everyday living.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
