I am a goal setter and overachiever so I like to work with the student to set goals that will not be discouraging. I believe that learning how to play an instrument/sing with others in an ensemble setting helps reinforce what we work on in the lesson. As a multi-instrumentalist, I enjoy finding songs we can eventually play together while implementing technique and structure. I’ve done everything from covers, to song writing, to singing operatic repertoire in 5 different languages. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar
I teach beginner piano, and also guitar, all ages and levels. My approach is for you to experience playing music as something enjoyable, something you like, and that you look forward to learning more about. Teaching and learning music is fun for me so I try to balance the fun with learning the basics! For young students my approach is about patience, positive reinforcement, moving at the right pace, staying upbeat and focused through a lesson, and reinforcing the key parts. Read More

I graduated from Khmelnitsky College of music with a focus in button accordion and piano, and I have earned my master degree from Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Kiev, Ukraine, the same institution that educated noted pianist Vladimir Horowitz and many other renowned performers, composers and educators. I performed with the Veriovka Choir, an award-winning orchestra that tours internationally to share the joy of music with audiences worldwide. Today I find fulfillment staying closer to home with my family and enthusiastically sharing music with my students. Read More

For piano I prefer the Faber series. I like to include scales, sight-reading, and repertoire of the students choosing and of my suggestion. For Voice I like to cover the anatomical fundamentals (posture, breath, phonation, and depending on age), in the first lesson, and each lesson includes a warm-up as well as at least one piece of repertoire of the students choosing. For guitar I teach note reading as well as tablature, but we mostly work from tablature, unless the student is studying classical. Read More

Teaching private music lessons to students of all ages and experience levels is a dynamic and rewarding endeavor that requires adaptability and a tailored approach. To begin, I start by assessing each student's individual goals, musical tastes, and prior experience. For beginners, I focus on building a strong foundation in music theory, basic techniques, and instrument proficiency. As students progress, I gradually introduce more complex concepts and repertoire suited to their interests and abilities. Read More

I began teaching private lessons in 2005, and I have a variety of teaching experiences. I have since substitute taught every kind of subject, and I've taught general music K-5. I have mentored conservatory level students when I was in grad school, I taught flute to non-flute music education majors, and I've taught undergraduate students that were pre-music. I taught 3-8 year olds music at Laurel Hill Summer Camp in East Setauket, Long Island. I've also taught workshops on South American Folk Music with Alturs Duo, as well as flute masterclasses. In the beginning, I always focus on their hand position, sitting position, because that can cause a lot of problems if the hand position is wrong. When they learn how to read the music, I always do the flash card and stickers to encourage them. Once the students has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals,I will let them play the materials, lesson book for the knowledge, Performance book for the song and theory book for the written.
