For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a modified Suzuki method, starting with rote learning and eventually progressing to notated music. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop passion and love for music. Therefore, it is important to let the students progress at their own paces with supervision and slight push. I encourage this by not only setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson and making sure we achieve that, but also by adding, from time to time, interesting notes about the history of music or composer's biography to captivate the students' imagination. I have been teaching piano since 2005 and been very active in Greater Boston area since 2014. I've had students aged from 4 to mid-50. I also worked as a tutor at Berklee College of Music during my study. Dicipline may be the most important thing to emphasize in the very beginning stage of learning.
