For beginning students at Chelsea High School, I developed my own guitar method books, level 1 and level 2, which use tablature for its very graphic and easy-to-understand method of learning notes on the guitar fretboard which have remained the texts for guitar classes at the High School since my departure. I have found that the basics are the most important part of music. Even issues in more advanced players can be addressed by filling the gaps in a students knowledge of the fundamentals. I also strongly emphasise a student's ear training as that really opens up the instrument to them, allowing for more intuitive playing and improved creativity. I tend to cater to the students needs, and can also create simple backing tracks for students to practice the concepts that have been covered in the lesson. Read More

Since then, I have continued teaching privately, in public schools, and at the university level. Beyond this, I try to create dialogue that encourages student's to become so adept that they can actually teach themselves. While I've taught all ages, I currently am only accepting highschool and online students for online instruction. I've found for these age groups that an online format is incredibly accessible and more than comprible to in-person lessons. Read More

I design curriculum and select repertoire based entirely on the unique position of each student. As a result, the methods I employ vary widely from student to student. In general, I help students to identify and scrutinize areas in which they hope to grow, and systematize methods for development in those areas. The first lesson always begins with asking a new student to play something for me. If a student comes to me with no experience at all, I will simply ask them to play anything for me - any combination of notes, volumes, clusters, and sounds over any period of time. Read More
