2015-2018 Performances with members of popular reggae groups such as Black Uhuru
Overview:
I began my musical journey since before grade school, learning piano and other percussive instruments. I immediately took a strong liking towards music and followed it through all my years in school, learning brass instruments and refining my practices along the way. in 2018, I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Performance. Along with over 4 years of teaching, I've had the experience of touring and performing in various venues around the country and across multiple genres, such as performing with orchestras in Boston Symphony Hall, as well as performing with popular reggae artists in Los Angeles venues.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching in 2014, shortly after graduating high school. I quickly began to enjoy encouraging and mentoring aspiring musicians to keep up with their practices as well as the love for music. I have a wide variety of teaching experiences such as teaching private lessons in home/studios, as well as instructing entire orchestras and wind ensembles. I've also found that a combination of classical and fundamental practices, as well as contemporary music, can go a long way in solidifying comfort ability on the instrument.
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children, I typically begin with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements; as well as other, more auditory practices that do not require a book. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce other solo repertoire pieces that I feel the student is ready for, and assist in musical execution for future recitals. For adults, I try to first find out what the student is interested in, and then guide my lessons in such a way that would be beneficial for their goal, as well as their musicianship.
LESSON STYLE
To me, nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students' passion for music arise during, and after lessons. For this is the way i believe important progression happens, when the student is passionate about the subject matter and eager to explore and most importantly enjoying it in the process. I always try to set an attainable goal for each lesson, its through these accomplishments that encourages a student to keep progressing and learning more about the instrument and music. By getting to know the student and find out what their inspiration is, i can guide my instruction to help them accomplish those goals.
