My teaching experience dates back to my early college days, about twenty-two years ago. I have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last two decades. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for their instrument. With 30 years of woodwind teaching experience, I have taught all levels from elementary students to college and beyond! I encourage regular practice schedules of a half an hour five times a week. I have developed 15 practical practice techniques that are fun and advance the student at a steady pace. Also, I encourage my students to perform in small recitals biannually. I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. I have found that students need a regular practice time 4 to 5 times a week, even if it is only a few minutes at a time; but, hopefully, we can find music that they like to sit down and play.
