Music Lessons in Commack, NY

Instruments: Piano Voice

I began teaching voice and piano lessons in grad school and have been teaching for the past 5 years. I love sharing my passion for the voice as an instrument, and I feel that a strong foundation of music theory and keyboard skills is a must for vocalists. I enjoy incorporating all of these skills into lessons. I've also found that no matter what style and genre of music interests you there is a primary fundamental healthy technique as the foundation for all of them, and I find it ver exciting and thrilling to develop the skills needed to unlock this vocal freedom! It is so important to have students keep their interests in music and continue their life long journey of music making. Therefore, I would choose the music that fits student's ability and interest, and encourage to practice at his or her own pace. As a teacher, I am not just teaching students the content knowledge, I am also a cheerleader, and a facilitator to their music studies. I want to inspire my students to enjoy music in their day to day life, and have a passion on playing the instrument or making music. Read More

For beginning students, I start with Michael Aaron and Michael Aaron Music Theory books. The beginner students really enjoy these theory books! I also incorporate Fabers Music Adventures into the lessons. As the student progresses, I begin to introduce pieces appropriate for their levels and tastes. Each student learns and progresses individually and I take that into account when suggesting repertoire for them. One student may want a classical piece while another student may want a song by Bruno Mars. Read More

Instruments: Drums

Beginner students learn essential basics of drumming, including how to hold the sticks, strike the drums, and position themselves behind the drum set. Students will also learn how to play a standard rock beat, basic music reading (which can be applied to any instrument), and the basic function of the drums in a musical situation. Intermediate drum lessons are geared towards a student's musical interests and are based on intermediate rudiments and snare and drum set reading. Read More

I believe in always cheering on my students and creating a warm and loving environment to help them grow! No matter what their age is, encouragement is key. Acknowledging their progress is what is going to move them forward and continue to learn and practice more. Constructive criticism is of course necessary, but it's important to focus on what the student is doing correct, and then build upon that and what they can do better. Read More
