I believe in teaching discipline, responsibility and dedication through the art of music! I use the NYS Common Core in Music to teach. My students are more likely to excel in all of their studies, have enhanced critical thinking skills and will have a higher level of focus discipline than students not studying music the arts. I have been working with piano and voice students for more than 20 years. My students came from different cultures and backgrounds. Teaching young piano students is my specialty. Many kids are struggling with focus and discipline, so piano is a tool to improve their focus and discipline. In March 2014, Luis was one of only three students chosen to perform in a flute master class with virtuoso flute player, Sir James Galway. In 2013, Luis performed alongside his colleagues in Hong Kong, Beijing, and South Korea. In addition, Luis was the first-place winner in the 2013 New Jersey Flute Choir Competition. In 2012 he performed a Duo Flute Concerto with Andrea Rivera as winners of the Nyack College Concerto Competition. In 2016 he was invited to return to Asia for the 2016 Chamberfest Tour as the Artistic Director where he would oversee rehearsals, prepare programs, and perform chamber and solo repertoire in Hong Kong, Seoul, Macau, and Japan. I started teaching while I was in college back in Texas and then moved to New York to pursue a career in Musical Theatre. I kept students from Texas online (some of whom are still with me today) and took a year and a half break from new students to do an international tour and an off-broadway show. I ask my students what their goal is with singing and if they want to do it professionally. Then I do vocal exercises to find out which voice my student has whether its soprano, mezzo-soprano or altos. Once I know what type of voice my student has, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire from opera, musical theatre or pop.
