Overview:
I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1992, I graduated from Baruch (CUNY) with a degree in Applied Music. I have performed in Nashville and in New York City which has been one of my greater experiences as a musician, and I have had the opportunity to play at Jazz and Country Western clubs. I also am part of the September Concert Event every year for the past 9 years performing with my students and holding a tribute with The Loupakis Gymnastics from Astoria in Athens Square Park.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, where I taught students on the campus at CW Post College. I have consistently taught students in my home studio for the last 15 years. I am very encouraging for the students to practice as a key point in becoming a great musician. I also emphasis this for the younger students, because it helps the student's progress and to gain a passion for his or her instrument. I have also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students to enjoy his or her instrument and to motivate them to practice and continue to learn. I do my best to have fun with the students. I also encourage my students to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I am always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
METHODS USED
I believe that creativity is important and I use Alfred and Hal Leonard books as well as theory books to help with the lessons. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I also try to teach music theory, chord progressions and all the musical scales in the major keys. Performance is also important and I try to create shows that my students can perform whatever their strongest musical style that they have learned.
LESSON STYLE
I feel very rewarded seeing my students develop a passion for music! I try to teach each student at his or her own pase. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. I also find the music that interest my students and obtain the music for them.

Elaine is an excellent teacher. She is very patient and thorough. My daughter has learned a lot in the few months she has been with her. Elaine is also very flexible in that she helps my daughter with her songs for church when the need arise. She is very creative and is great at incorporating clients ideas with her own. I love that she’s not afraid to let clients know what will and will not work. She is great! My daughter loves her and is now more confident about her skills after working with Ms. A.

Elaine is an excellent teacher. She is very well organized and it is indeed a pleasure to have her as my teacher. I am very honored that she has asked me to participate in a concert on September 14th . I am looking forward to it, and to also continue wanting to sing to bring joy to people. I am going to be recording my very first CD this coming fall of my favorite Christmas songs., and am so very happy that I will be doing this.
