I love working with students who want to dare to try new things! I think that students grow most when they are stretched out of their comfort zone. This allows them to find their limits physically, vocally, emotionally, and then to build upon their strengths to become the artists they strive to be. I like to incorporate physicality to help loosen the body and free the mind from overthinking. I also believe music is a place to express and will always meet my student where they are each lesson. A student will always learn technique and theory on a much deeper level when it is taught in conjunction to music that they like, rather than as a separate academic study. This method maintains a students interest as well. With regards to advanced players, I find that the problem is rarely how to play, but rather what to play, or what NOT to play. This is usually best solved by helping a player to re-examine his or her approach to applying what they already know. Read More

My teaching experience dates back all the way to Middle School, when I started teaching my first saxophone student. I continued teaching in High School in the following subject areas: Physics, Geometry, Algebra (all math), and Chemistry. I started teaching swim lessons in early college too. Why does all of this matter? Well, I hope it shows that I am an experienced educator in more than just music! I believe that there are overlaps in every subject of teaching, and these experiences have enhanced my teaching of music. Read More

I am a multi-woodwind instrumentalist specializing in saxophone. My training is in jazz and classical music but I have performed in a variety of different genres such as latin jazz, swing, improvisation, contemporary classical music and baroque music etc. I currently work full time as a quality control musician at DAddario in NY. At this job I play test clarinet and saxophone reeds and mouthpieces for production approval. In addition to my job at DAddario, I perform freelance for various musical events, and frequently sub with the Cherry Poppin Daddies on alto saxophone and clarinet. Read More

There is no single definitive teaching method series. I try to tailor the method to the individual. For the beginning student, my personal favorite series is the Diller-Quaile because it offers a gradual and steady progression from basic to more complex. Also, the material presented is far more interesting than in most other collections. For a more advanced student, I generally assess their capabilities and very often introduce them to the Bach two and three part Inventions. Read More
