Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! Read More

Teaching piano is a great joy. My goal is to help students develop the skill to make playing music fun and satisfying, whether their goal is to become a professional or to simply enjoy playing for its own sake. I've worked for several arts agencies (Arts Horizons, Healing Arts Initiative, CREATE) so I've had the privilege to teach music in a variety of settings. While teaching in a classroom setting is immensely satisfying, seeing individual students grow in proficiency, dexterity. concentration, is an even bigger thrill. Read More

My teaching style is to keep things fun and stress free. I really like to listen to what the student wants to get out of the lessons. Some might be more interested in theory and technique while other's goals might be more interested in learning songs to get out and play. I also like to introduce students to new things that can help in advancing their skills and knowledge. Each student is an individual and advances at their own pace. Read More

I'm very patient and fun. My concept is a very straight forward approach by applying theory and technique to pieces of music. The student learns proficiencies [scales, chords, theory, technique and more ] Develops a song list. With a check list of things to do with the songs. melody, chords , advanced chords , chord melody, improvisation, riffs Also we study composition and song writing. Read More

I have been teaching music since I was a young high school student. Over the years, I have crafted a unique and open method to teaching music that makes students feel engaged with their practice. I started my journey in middle school on the saxophone, taking my studies to the esteemed William Paterson University in New Jersey. Over my years of study there and in New York, I connected with other instruments I played such as the flute, piano, and guitar, and taught each of them along the way. Read More

I have been teaching since the year 2000, and currently maintain a diverse studio of 10-20 students ranging in age from elementary school to mid-50s. My mission is to help students clearly define their goals in music-making, and lay out a plan to accomplish those goals. Competitions and recitals are strictly optional--there is no pressure here. How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Any child that has the desire to study music should be allowed to take lessons, regardless of age. I believe that even if the student does not become a musician, playing an instrument creates discipline, character and it will give them an extra activity for them to do whenever they are stuck in their daily routine. A child cannot be involuntarily made to play an instrument when the parent or guardian wants to, it should come naturally and out of curiosity of the student, therefore creating interest and eventually passion.
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
My main advice is to dedicate a healthy amount of time such as an hour minimum per day. I believe that concentration and effective use of time is more rewarding than many hours of unfocused and sparse practicing. I believe that it is effective to divide the practice time into two or more topics to allow for a more focused session. I also strongly recommend not to overdo any exercise or practicing routine when one is "Stuck", I recommend leaving it for another practice session or to partake on any other activity for a short while to enable mental health and clarity.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
The musical accomplishment I am most proud of is
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I chose my primary instrument because my brother wanted to play Guitar. We both signed up for lessons and after less than a year, I was already taking mine and my brothers lesson because I felt so passionate about the instrument. I stayed with the guitar because it was an instrument with which I connected and felt that I could express myself. I also played piano briefly before the guitar but not having the correct teacher led me to abandon the instrument and never really have the passion to play it again.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
My first guitar teacher taught me lessons consecutively for eight years and he is the main reason that I went into music. My teacher inspired me by always giving me positive feedback and by adapting the lessons to what I wanted to learn. His attitude was always motivating me to become better while being very demanding of what he expected me to achieve in each lesson. This led me to practice everyday since I can remember and it is what led me to become the musician that i am today. A teacher will always have a fundamental role in the students development and love towards music.
When will I start to see results?
Results will be seen depending on how much the student practices and takes seriously their music education. A teacher cannot make a student better, only the student. The teachers role is to give guidance and suggest new ideas and methods that will enable the student to learn better but it ultimately comes down to the student to see progress. As a teacher, encouraging the student to learn the music they want and giving them a comprehensive lesson plan and practice schedule is a great way to start.
