I teach because I love imparting knowledge and making connections in this way, and because I love the fundamental building blocks of musicianship and music theory. I have found that with careful attention to a student's character, the possibilities for learning are boundless. I like to let love guide the process, in the sense that I observe carefully the kinds of sounds that a student is fond of, and attempt to structure their learning in a way that empowers them to make those sounds. Lessons will vary, depending on each student's needs, wants, and capability. I think it's important to consistently accomplish small goals in order to raise one's self esteem and motivation to practice the instrument. I put a strong emphasis on listening, reading, writing, improvisation, and playing with others. Students who are new to the instrument will be introduced to the fundamentals of the guitar. From then on, students will work to set their own goals, ranging from wanting to be to play their favorite Justin Bieber songs, or if diving deep into the world of jazz. Read More

I teach from a flexible curriculum depending on the student's goals and interests. If someone wants to learn technique, music theory, songwriting, how to play Taylor Swift songs, arranging, composing, confidence, et cetera we will work on what is driving them to take lessons and learn! If the student is younger I will provide them with an organized syllabus and “fun” damentals! If they are older, I will help them find a way to stick with the music and accomplish their goals. Music is my life and I don't know what I'd do if it wasn't teaching. I do private lessons both in person and online. I have students of all ages, 5 - 45. I've been doing this for seven years. I specialize in practice techniques and NYSSMA prep. It's funny I don't believe in bad music. Beauty is in the eye (or in this case the ear) of the beholder. There are many ways to love music, and there are just as many ways to learns music. Read More

By far the greatest feeling as a teacher is that moment when the "lightbulb" turns on for the student and the idea clicks. It's an amazing feeling and to see growth happening is such a privelege. I remember the excitement of learning a new song when someone would show me, or when I'd get a challenging part. Honestly, there's not a feeling on earth as gratifying for me as in the moment, knowing that I used to not be able to do this, and now I can do it. Read More

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Any child that has the desire to study music should be allowed to take lessons, regardless of age. I believe that even if the student does not become a musician, playing an instrument creates discipline, character and it will give them an extra activity for them to do whenever they are stuck in their daily routine. A child cannot be involuntarily made to play an instrument when the parent or guardian wants to, it should come naturally and out of curiosity of the student, therefore creating interest and eventually passion.

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
My main advice is to dedicate a healthy amount of time such as an hour minimum per day. I believe that concentration and effective use of time is more rewarding than many hours of unfocused and sparse practicing. I believe that it is effective to divide the practice time into two or more topics to allow for a more focused session. I also strongly recommend not to overdo any exercise or practicing routine when one is "Stuck", I recommend leaving it for another practice session or to partake on any other activity for a short while to enable mental health and clarity.

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
The musical accomplishment I am most proud of is

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I chose my primary instrument because my brother wanted to play Guitar. We both signed up for lessons and after less than a year, I was already taking mine and my brothers lesson because I felt so passionate about the instrument. I stayed with the guitar because it was an instrument with which I connected and felt that I could express myself. I also played piano briefly before the guitar but not having the correct teacher led me to abandon the instrument and never really have the passion to play it again.

Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
My first guitar teacher taught me lessons consecutively for eight years and he is the main reason that I went into music. My teacher inspired me by always giving me positive feedback and by adapting the lessons to what I wanted to learn. His attitude was always motivating me to become better while being very demanding of what he expected me to achieve in each lesson. This led me to practice everyday since I can remember and it is what led me to become the musician that i am today. A teacher will always have a fundamental role in the students development and love towards music.

When will I start to see results?
Results will be seen depending on how much the student practices and takes seriously their music education. A teacher cannot make a student better, only the student. The teachers role is to give guidance and suggest new ideas and methods that will enable the student to learn better but it ultimately comes down to the student to see progress. As a teacher, encouraging the student to learn the music they want and giving them a comprehensive lesson plan and practice schedule is a great way to start.
