Instruments: Piano Voice
I began my teaching career as a teenager with beginning piano students in my home. I continued to teach part-time throughout university, adding voice to the mix, and have taught full time off and on since then between singing engagements, mothering my children and working. I have taught at the Elementary/Middle School level in a private after-school program in NYC, at Westminster Choir College in NJ for a year and began teaching on Long Island in recent years since my move to Centereach, NY. Instruments: Trumpet Music
Inspired by the Music of Louis Armstrong and Al Hirt, I felt it was a sign for me to learn the Trumpet. The year was approximately 1961. I was 9 years old at the time. Now 60 years later, I still have that same love for Music and still enjoy playing the trumpet. I was taught by my grandfather, who was a Professor of Music who played and taught multiple brass and woodwind instruments. Read More
Instruments: Flute
I began teaching when I was in High School, where I had several students of varying ages and skill levels. I taught private lessons in their homes. I encourage regular practice, and weekly lessons. A mixture of method books and my own personal written lessons I have found to be the most effective teaching strategy. Books with a variety of popular solos I also utilize. Method books are necessary for skill, but can get boring and repetitive for younger students. Keeping things fresh and interesting is my main focus in teaching. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
My teaching experience dates back to just before I started college, as I began teaching lessons part time in 1991. I believe that students begin playing an instrument because they think it is fun. My goal is to have lessons be fun all while establishing a good core of basics to build upon. I do this by learning about each studentindividuallyand catering my lessons to their likes/dislikes. This can be done by learning all types of music; classical, pop/rock, showtunes, country, etc. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar Electric Guitar Classical Guitar Acoustic Guitar
My teaching style is very relaxed, but I will push you when necessary. I will adapt my methods for each student. If your goal is to prepare for a college recital, then we will work very hard together to make sure you are prepared. For the more casual student, we will focus more on music that you want to learn while maintaining proper technique and practice methods. I want to make sure that everyone has a positive experience learning the guitar, but also feels like they are progressing at the same time. Read More
Instruments: Drums Mallet Percussion Conga
My approach to teaching is to try and understand each students level of musicianship and evaluate their weaknesses and strengths. I believe that repetition and the reduction of speed are essential for learning, mastering and remembering technique and the nuances of music. I encourage each student to explore the style or genre of music that is most appealing to them. As well as experiment and persevere through new challenges of unfamiliar works or styles, such as classical, jazz, African and Latin/Cuban. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Flute Synthesizer Euphonium Music Keyboard
My methods are pretty straight forward. I focus heavily on technique. A good foundation can help a student be their best in each genre. I personalize my lesson plans and drills to accommodate the student's strengths, weaknesses, and over all goal. I will push you to your limits so you can go even further than you thought you could. I also teach you how to be a healthy musician and steer students away from bad techniques that can cause damage or harm them in any way. Read More
