There are many method books available, one that I have used is "Piano Adventures" by Nancy and Randall Faber. There are many series of books now available with varied styles of music from beginning to intermediate levels such as those by Martha Mier, Robert Vandall and Christopher. Very young students and sometimes even those who are older have difficulty understanding musical notation and it is useful to teach them by rote while also improving reading skills. Read More

I am a very organised teacher, giving each of my students lesson notes with exercises and aspects to work on. I regularly suggest music which complements the work we are doing to strengthen the voice, create flexibility, or consistency of tone. I am a bit of a perfectionist, but I also hold myself to that high standard. It is so important to me to get students to listen to themselves, to think critically about what they hear and feel, and also learn how to troubleshoot issues on their own! Read More

I believe that music has the capacity to be an agent of change, both within and outside one's self. Learning a musical instrument can be a very satisfying opportunity to grow as a person and as a musician.
