I'm a voice and violin teacher who loves teaching music! I especially like working with children. In 2012, I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Music. I also studied at Mannes Pre-college in Manhattan, New York from 2003 to 2008. I've had the opportunity to work with some of the best vocalists in the music industry, including the group "Soul for Real." I've also worked with numerous producers of Mary J. Read More

My teaching style is based around health-promoting vocal exercises and exploration which serve to build the voice in all areas. Increased strength and flexibility in the voice work for us in any style and ultimately give us the freedom to express ourselves with greater ease. I strive for wellness in the voice and does not push people to sing in ways that create pain or stress. I am patient in working through any particular issues such as intonation, ear training, releasing tension, and breathing. Read More

Ultimately students must really enjoy what they are doing to be successful in the long term. I try to discern the student's strengths and build on those. A sense of accomplishment and progress needs to be maintained with mostly positive feedback and encouragement to strive to be better. The students interests must be taken into consideration, whatever they may be while pushing to broaden their interests and understand the common elements in all kinds of music. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate days, as I began teaching private lessons part-time 7 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students all across the globe in the US, Singapore, and Taiwan. I have worked with beginner, intermediate, and advanced players and adjusted to their needs accordingly, as well as gained valuable knowledge on how to efficiently resolve the difficulties encountered by the students. My own experience with how my teacher taught me also inspired me to have acquired many problem-solving skills and I aspire to pass down those abilities to my students. Read More

Depending upon what area/instrument of music I'm teaching, I use a number of different materials, including (but not limited to) Tonal Harmony (Kostka, et al.), Essential Dictionary of Music Notation, Accent on Achievement, Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, or Rock House Method (McCarthy). The skill level of the student also dictates what resources I'll use. In addition, I believe that the student should have control over his/her development as a musician, so I encourage my students to create a list of songs they wish to learn how to play. Read More

It is important to me that I pay attention to a student during a lesson to see what confuses them, what excites them and what frustrates them. I go at their pace. When a student shows a lot of interest and is practicing regularly I will try and challenge them as much as I think they can handle. Children and adult students need to know they are making progress. And I am a great encourager. Read More

My teaching experiences go back at least 15 years. I started when I was in college and have never stopped teaching. In my lessons I focus on the whole child. Together we find out where their strengths lie and capitalize on those strengths. Music is supposed to be fun and that is one of my goals is to keep it fun and exciting for the student. I find it is best to expose the student to all types of music new and old and everything from classical to hip hop. Read More
